Tournaments

The International Chess Institute (ICI) is a certified affiliate of the United States Chess Federation. As an educational tool the ICI implements and promotes various chess tournaments throughout the year to build sportsmanship and facilitate friendly competition for children and young adults.

ICI’s support staff of administrators, instructors, and volunteers assist tournament directors in making tournaments fun and educational.

In addition, to our regularly scheduled tournaments at the end of each year the ICI holds a special invitational tournament. To qualify for the International Chess Institute´s Tournament of Champions candidates will need to place in the top 15 of our Grand prix by the end of the year. All remaining spots will be determined by a double elimination qualifying tournaments. For every tournament game win in an ICI event you receive 1 qualifying Grand Prix point and ½ points for draws. Byes and/or forfeits will not count towards the Grand Prix.
